About the distillery

Chichibu Distillery was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto who was more commonly known for the saviour of the Hanyu brand. Ichiro started as a brand manager for Suntory and went on to become Hanyu President before the distillery closed in 2000 as it failed to keep up with its competition. Ichiro started a company Venture Whisky Ltd. in the hope to globally market the remaining Hanyu stock with his goal to construct a distillery himself. In 2008 the construction of Chichibu was completed and began production which has built a high reputation since.
