The Islay Festival of Music & Malt AKA Fèis Ìle began in 1985 where it led to the establishment of The Islay Festival Association to enhance Island tourism. The festival incorporated Whisky tasting in 1990 with the Island distilleries eventually becoming directly involved. This release was distilled on 28th October 1998 and finished in a ex-calvados casks and bottled in January 2022.

About the distillery

Bunnahabhain Distillery, Region Islay, Located on the isle of Islay, was founded in 1881 by the Islay Distillery co. The construction was in the midst of the whisky Boom. Production started promptly in 1883, initially successful but the owners decided to change its strategy and produce for blends rather than single malts. In 1886 the sales of whisky sank during the recession and the distillery production was over halved, Islay Distillery Co. joined forces with WM Glen Grant & Co. forming Highland Distillers in 1897 and owned the distillery until 1999, In 1903 the distillery again was forced to close its doors for 7 years to the Great Depression, It was closed on a number of occasions for relatively short periods of time between the 30's to the 80's including closure to the second World War, In 1999 Edrington acquired Highland Distillers, In 2003 Edrington sold the distillery onwards to Burn Stewart however his tenure was short lived and he sold the distillery onwards in 2013
